Much too late – namely only in the summer of 1997 – the author set off to see the Finnish MiG-21s. Nevertheless, or perhaps precisely because of this, the midsummer visit to the Oulu Airshow and the one in deepest winter at Kuopio remain impressive memories for him. Besides the encounter with almost the entire fleet of the Ilmavoimat (Finnish Air Force), the atmospheric journey there and back through a beautiful country, but also the anxious wait for the MiG-21, which took off as the last aircraft for its display in the evening, have stuck in his mind.
