On the way to this year's airshow in Sofia, the opportunity finally arose to visit the National Museum of Military History, which displays numerous exhibits from Bulgaria's more recent military aviation (the only exception: a German Tornado) on its spacious open-air grounds, including five MiG-21s. The two MiG-21bis whose serials begin with 5 are just as exotic as the MiG-21PFM 67 on display – all three belong to Soviet "gift" deliveries and show features not found on other Warsaw Pact MiG-21s.
At least as interesting are the missiles on display, including surface-to-air and nuclear-capable surface-to-surface missiles.
